PRP — Platelet-Rich Plasma — has been used in clinical medicine for over twenty years. The principle is straightforward: a small amount of your blood is drawn, processed to concentrate the platelets and the growth factors they contain, and re-introduced to the skin or scalp where it stimulates regenerative repair. Used properly, PRP is one of the most established, autologous regenerative treatments available — meaning the active component comes from your own body, which eliminates allergy or rejection risk.

At AEOM we offer two routes into PRP work:

Standard PRP — A course-based treatment, typically three sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart, with maintenance every 6–12 months. The more accessible, more established protocol. Strong choice for patients building a regenerative skin pathway over time.

PRP with Exomine ERP — Our higher-concentration alternative. Uses the same blood draw but processes it through a specialist preparation system (an Advanced PRF tube and Microlyzer cutting tool) to release approximately 90–100 billion extracellular vesicles, of which around 98% are platelet-derived exosomes, according to the manufacturer's testing. A single session, typically delivering effects lasting around six months. The premium choice for patients wanting fewer visits or more pronounced regenerative work.

HOW IT WORKS

The science, briefly

Standard PRP

Approximately 20ml of blood is drawn from your arm — similar to a routine blood test. The blood is then centrifuged (spun at high speed) to separate the platelets from other blood components. The platelet-rich layer is collected, prepared, and either injected into the treatment area or applied topically following microneedling.

Platelets carry growth factors — biological signalling molecules that direct tissue repair. When concentrated and re-introduced to the skin, they trigger a regenerative response: stimulating collagen synthesis, supporting new blood vessel formation, and accelerating cellular repair. The effect compounds across a course of sessions as repeated stimulation drives sustained collagen production.

PRP with Exomine ERP

The blood draw is the same, but the preparation is significantly more sophisticated. The PRP is processed through:

  • A specialised Microlyzer cutting tool that applies controlled shear stress to the platelets, encouraging them to release their extracellular vesicles
  • An Advanced PRF tube designed to further enhance vesicle release through its specific grooved structure
  • A final centrifugation step that concentrates the released vesicles in the upper layer of the sample

 

The result, according to the manufacturer's lab analysis, is approximately 90–100 billion extracellular vesicles per treatment, of which around 98% are platelet-derived exosomes. Preparation (both treatments):

After

both treatments

Immediately: Mild swelling, redness or small bumps at the injection sites — normal and expected. Skin may feel warm or tender. No bleeding visible.

    Some clinics offer "exosome" treatments using donor-derived material (typically from human placenta, stem cell sources or plant material). These are not autologous — they don't come from your own body. The regulatory landscape around donor-derived exosomes in the UK is evolving and currently restrictive; many products legally available in the US are not approved for injection in the UK.     Is there a difference for hair vs face treatment?

    The blood draw and preparation are identical.     Can I combine PRP with anti-wrinkle injections (Botox) or fillers?

    Yes, with appropriate spacing. We'd typically deliver anti-wrinkle injections at a separate appointment, spaced 2 weeks before or after PRP. Combining with fillers requires more careful planning — speak to us at consultation.
