Sofwave is a clinical-grade ultrasound platform — FDA-cleared in the US, MHRA-registered in the UK — designed to stimulate collagen production in the deeper layers of skin without surgery, needles or downtime.
It's used at AEOM as the primary platform for non-surgical lifting and tightening. Where injectables address volume and texture, Sofwave addresses skin structure: the underlying collagen and elastin framework that determines how firm, lifted and resilient skin actually looks.
A single Sofwave session, properly delivered, produces results that build over three months and typically last 12–18 months. It's the treatment most patients underestimate — and the one they recommend most often after experiencing it.
HOW IT WORKS
The science, briefly
Sofwave uses Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam (SUPERB) technology, focused ultrasound energy delivered at a precise depth of approximately 1.5mm into the mid-dermis. At that depth, the ultrasound generates controlled thermal coagulation points that stimulate the body's natural wound-healing response, including new collagen production, elastin remodelling, and tissue tightening.
Crucially, Sofwave works at the dermal level; not the muscle or fat layers below. This is what makes it different from older ultrasound technologies like Ultherapy, which target deeper layers and can produce inconsistent results, more discomfort and occasional volume loss. Sofwave's controlled depth is also what makes it suitable for a wider range of skin tones and types than many older tightening platforms.
The treatment itself takes 30–75 minutes depending on the area. There's no break in the skin, no incision, no recovery period and requires just a single session that triggers a regenerative process that continues for the following three months.

Important honest note
Sofwave is a tightening treatment, not a volumising one. It addresses skin laxity but doesn't restore lost volume — and in patients with significant volume loss (often from weight loss or ageing), combining Sofwave with regenerative work (PRP with Exomine ERP) or appropriate volumising treatments produces better outcomes than Sofwave alone. We'll discuss this honestly at consultation.

Ultherapy uses focused ultrasound at multiple deeper levels (1.5mm, 3mm and 4.5mm), targeting the SMAS layer beneath the skin. Sofwave delivers ultrasound at a single controlled depth of approximately 1.5mm, in the mid-dermis. In practice, Sofwave is typically less uncomfortable, faster, suitable for a wider range of skin tones, and produces more consistent results across patients. Sofwave vs Morpheus8 / RF Microneedling
Morpheus8 combines microneedling (creating micro-injuries) with radiofrequency energy. It's more invasive than Sofwave — there are skin punctures, downtime of 24–72 hours, and a more uncomfortable treatment experience. RF Microneedling can be excellent for some patients, particularly those addressing both texture and laxity together. Sofwave is the better choice for patients prioritising no downtime and structural tightening over texture work.
Sofwave vs Surgical Lifting
Surgical facelift physically lifts and redrapes skin — and remains the appropriate intervention for severe skin laxity with significant redundancy. For mild-to-moderate laxity, Sofwave often produces results comparable to surgical work at this category, without the downtime, scarring, anaesthetic risk or cost. How long do Sofwave results last?
Results from a single Sofwave treatment typically last 12–18 months.
Most patients return annually for a maintenance treatment to sustain the effect. The collagen stimulated by Sofwave continues to support skin structure for as long as it's present — the maintenance treatment essentially "tops up" the collagen stimulation cycle.
Is Sofwave painful?
The treatment produces a warm, mildly intense sensation during each ultrasound pulse — uncomfortable but well-tolerated by most patients.
Numbing cream applied before treatment significantly reduces discomfort. Most patients describe it as "warm and prickly" rather than painful. The integrated cooling system protects the skin surface throughout.
How is Sofwave different from Ultherapy?
Sofwave uses non-focused ultrasound at a controlled depth (approximately 1.5mm) in the mid-dermis.
Ultherapy uses focused ultrasound that targets multiple deeper layers including the SMAS. In practice, Sofwave treatments are typically less uncomfortable, faster, and produce more consistent results across patients — which is why we use it as our primary tightening platform. Both stimulate collagen, but the patient experience and consistency differ significantly.
Can Sofwave be used on darker skin tones?
Yes. Sofwave's controlled mid-dermal depth and integrated cooling system make it suitable for all Fitzpatrick skin types (I–VI). This is a significant advantage over some older tightening technologies that aren't appropriate for deeper skin tones.
How many sessions do I need?
A single Sofwave session produces full results, building over three months.
Unlike many tightening treatments, Sofwave is not delivered as a course of sessions — one treatment is the full protocol. Maintenance is typically annual.
Is there any downtime?
None. Mild redness or pink flush may persist for a few hours after treatment, but there's no break in the skin, no bruising, no required recovery. You can return to work, exercise, makeup and normal activities immediately. Most patients schedule Sofwave around lunch and return to work afterwards.
Can I have Sofwave during pregnancy?
No. Sofwave is not delivered during pregnancy. If you're pregnant or trying to conceive, please tell us at consultation.
Can I have Sofwave if I have fillers in the treatment area?
Speak to us at consultation. In most cases, Sofwave can be delivered safely after fillers have settled (typically 2–4 weeks post-filler). If you've had recent filler placement, we may recommend waiting before Sofwave — and we'd typically not deliver Sofwave directly over a recent filler placement.
Will Sofwave work for post-weight-loss or GLP-1 skin laxity?
For mild-to-moderate facial and neck laxity following significant weight loss — including weight loss from GLP-1 medications — yes, Sofwave can produce meaningful improvement.
For severe laxity with significant skin redundancy, non-surgical treatment alone may not be sufficient. We'll assess your specific situation honestly at consultation and tell you whether Sofwave is the appropriate route, whether combination treatment (e.g. Sofwave with PRP and skin boosters) would help, or whether surgical intervention would be the better answer.
Can Sofwave be used on the body?
Yes — we deliver Sofwave on the abdomen, upper arms, inner thighs, above the knees and décolletage. Body treatments take 45–75 minutes depending on the area and produce results following the same 3-month timeline as facial treatments. Body Sofwave is particularly effective for skin laxity following weight loss or pregnancy.
Is there a course discount for treating multiple areas?
Yes — 10% discount on a second area treated in the same session.
