PRF Therapy

The next generation of regenerative plasma.

Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is an advanced development of PRP, drawn entirely from your own blood, but prepared to release its regenerative growth factors more slowly and over a longer period. Like PRP, it uses nothing but your own biology to stimulate the skin's natural repair. What sets it apart is the sustained, gradual release, which makes it particularly suited to delicate areas and longer-term regenerative work.

What PRF is and how it differs from PRP

PRF is made the same way PRP begins, from a small sample of your own blood, spun to separate its regenerative components. The difference is in the preparation. PRF is prepared without anticoagulant and at a gentler spin, which allows a natural fibrin matrix to form. This matrix holds the platelets and white cells together and releases their growth factors slowly, over days rather than all at once.

In practice, that means:

  • PRP delivers a strong, immediate release of growth factors, a powerful initial regenerative boost.
  • PRF delivers a slower, more sustained release, gentler, longer-acting, and fully autologous with nothing added at all.

Because PRF forms a soft matrix, it's especially well-suited to the treatments below;

  • Skin quality and biostimulation — sustained regenerative support for texture, firmness and overall skin health
  • Under-eye — PRF's gradual release and soft matrix make it particularly suited to the delicate under-eye area
  • Hair support — the same sustained release used to support the scalp and follicles

PRF pairs naturally with microneedling, where its growth factors are worked into the skin, and can form part of a wider regenerative plan alongside PRP and other treatments.

WHO IT'S FOR

Who PRF is right for

Well-suited if you're looking for:

N

Overall improvement in skin quality, texture and firmness through a natural, regenerative treatment

Regenerative work that pairs well with microneedling and other skin treatments

Standard PRP is typically the better choice if:

K

Bleeding disorders or active blood-thinning medication (speak to us at consultation — risk profile shifts)

K

Active infections or open wounds in the treatment area

K

Active cancer or recent chemotherapy

K

Significant anaemia (we may run bloods first to confirm safety)

K

Pregnancy or breastfeeding — neither treatment is delivered during pregnancy

K

Keloid scarring history — we'd assess at consultation

WHAT TO EXPECT

Before, during and after

Before

Consultation & assessment

Every PRF patient begins with a consultation and assessment. For skin, we identify the areas and concerns to treat; for hair, we assess your pattern of thinning and whether PRF is appropriate. Avoid alcohol for 24 hours beforehand, stay well hydrated, and, if suitable, avoid blood-thinning supplements and anti-inflammatories for 48 hours before, as they can increase bruising.

During

The session

The treatment takes 45–60 minutes. We draw a small sample of your blood, then spin it in the centrifuge for a few minutes to prepare the plasma while numbing cream takes effect. The concentrated plasma is then delivered to the treatment area, by injection, or worked into the skin alongside microneedling, depending on the plan. Most patients find it very tolerable; the blood draw feels like any routine test, and numbing makes the treatment itself comfortable.

After

RECOVERY

Some redness, mild swelling or minor bruising at the treatment sites is normal and settles over a day or two. Because PRP is your own biology, there's no risk of reaction to a foreign substance. You can return to normal activities quickly, with a few simple aftercare steps we'll explain. Results build gradually over the following weeks as the regenerative process works.

RESULTS

What results actually look like

PRF is regenerative, so its effects build over time rather than appearing at once. Most patients see progressive improvement in skin quality, firmness and texture across a course, with the fullest results developing over the following weeks. In the under-eye, PRF's sustained release supports the quality and tone of the delicate skin gradually and naturally. Because it works with your body's own repair processes, PRF produces natural, gradual change, a course delivers meaningfully more than a single session, and maintenance sustains it.

    The honest summary

PRF, like PRP, is a genuine regenerative treatment, it improves skin quality and supports the tissue's own repair. It doesn't add volume or lift structurally, and its effects build gradually rather than appearing at once. For volume or structural change, filler or Sofwave are the right treatments. We'll always be honest at consultation about whether PRP, PRF, or another approach is the right answer for your concern..

PRF COMPARED WITH OTHER REGENERATIVE TREATMENTS

    How PRP compares to alternatives

    PRF vs PRP

Both are drawn from your own blood, and both are genuinely regenerative, the difference is in preparation and release. PRP concentrates platelets for an immediate, powerful release of growth factors. PRF is prepared without anticoagulant to form a fibrin matrix that releases those growth factors slowly, over days. PRP suits a strong initial regenerative boost; PRF suits gradual, sustained biostimulation and delicate areas like the under-eye. Neither is "better", they suit different concerns, and we'll recommend the right one at consultation.

    PRF vs Dermal Filler

Different jobs entirely. Filler adds volume and restores structure immediately. PRF adds no volume, it improves the quality of the skin through gradual regeneration. For hollowing or lost structure, filler is the answer; for skin quality, PRF. In the under-eye, the two are sometimes considered together, where the concern is structure, skin quality, or both, we'll advise honestly which is appropriate.

    PRF vs Skin Boosters

Skin boosters use hyaluronic acid to draw in and hold hydration, improving elasticity and skin quality. PRF uses your own growth factors to stimulate the skin's natural repair over time. Boosters give more immediate hydration and glow; PRF works more gradually and more deeply on the skin's own renewal, using nothing but your biology.

    PRF vs Exosome Therapy

Both support skin regeneration, but PRF is drawn entirely from your own blood, while exosome therapy uses a manufactured regenerative product. PRF is the fully autologous route; exosomes are a more advanced, emerging option used selectively. They can be complementary within a regenerative plan, and we'll explain where each fits at consultation.

    COMBINE WITH

    Treatments that combine well
    with PRP

    SkinPen Elite Microneedling

The natural pairing. Microneedling creates channels for the growth factors to work into, combining regenerative repair with collagen stimulation for skin quality and texture together.

    Sofwave

Sofwave for structural tightening, PRP for skin quality and regeneration, addressing firmness and skin health together, usually in separate sessions.

    Skin Boosters

Both improve skin quality by different means; used across a plan they support hydration, regeneration and overall skin health.

    PRP

Used within a broader regenerative plan, PRP's immediate boost and PRF's sustained release can complement each other across a course, matched to the concern and area.

    Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between PRP and PRF?

Both come from your own blood. PRP concentrates platelets for an immediate release of growth factors; PRF is prepared differently to form a natural matrix that releases them slowly, over days. PRP gives a strong initial boost; PRF a gentler, more sustained effect. We'll recommend the right one for your concern at consultation.

    Is PRF safe?

PRF is drawn entirely from your own blood with nothing added — no anticoagulant, no synthetic product — so it has an excellent safety profile and no risk of reaction to a foreign substance. As with any injectable treatment, some redness or minor bruising is normal afterwards.

    Does it hurt?

The blood draw feels like any routine blood test, and numbing cream is applied before treatment, so most patients find it very tolerable.

How many sessions will I need?

PRF is regenerative, so results build across a course rather than from a single session. Most concerns respond best to a course spaced a few weeks apart, followed by maintenance. We'll set out a realistic plan at consultation.

How soon will I see results?

Because PRF works with your body's own repair processes, changes are gradual, building over the weeks following treatment and compounding across a course.

    Is PRF good for under-eyes?

Yes — PRP for hair restoration is one of the most established applications. PRP injected into the scalp can support hair follicle health, reduce shedding, and stimulate new growth — particularly effective for early-stage androgenic alopecia and post-pregnancy or stress-related hair thinning. For hair restoration, we typically recommend a course of three sessions, spaced 4–6 weeks apart, with maintenance every 4–6 months. We'd discuss whether standard PRP or Exomine ERP is the better choice based on your specific concerns.

Can I have PRP if I'm taking blood thinners?

Speak to us at consultation. PRP relies on platelet function, which is affected by blood-thinning medications (warfarin, apixaban, daily aspirin, etc.). Depending on the medication and dosing, PRP may or may not be appropriate — and we may recommend a different treatment route. Don't stop prescribed medication without your doctor's guidance.

Can PRF be combined with other treatments?

Yes — PRF pairs especially well with microneedling, and can form part of a wider regenerative plan alongside PRP, Sofwave and skin boosters. We'll plan the timing around your skin.

    Where is AEOM located?

Our clinic is at 116 Seymour Place in Marylebone, London.

Marylebone, Baker Street and Edgware Road stations are all under ten minutes on foot. Free street parking is available after 6.30pm, with paid bays on York Street nearby — daytime parking is reimbursed for treatments over £200. Treatments are by appointment only.

    Ready to discuss PRF?

Both PRF routes are well-established and well-evidenced, but the right choice between them depends on your specific concerns, goals and visit preferences. Book a consultation and we'll discuss which protocol is most appropriate for you, and how it fits into your broader skin or hair plan.
